Anchors Are Malevolent! Bitcoin Core is Ruining Bitcoin!

There was a belief that the Bitcoin community had moved past baseless arguments against Bitcoin improvements. These arguments often painted proponents as battling corruption from within. However, recent events have proven otherwise.
Lightning channels require proactive decisions on fee-rates for unilateral closure transactions due to the multisig nature of UTXO in channels. This poses challenges during fee closures, leading to unnecessary costs or delays in channel closure. The introduction of anchor outputs aimed to address these issues, but they came with their own inefficiencies.
Ephemeral anchors, part of the v3 transaction relay, offer a new solution. These zero-value outputs with OP_TRUE allow for feeless unilateral closure transactions. They simplify the process and eliminate the capital inefficiencies associated with anchor outputs, providing benefits to any second-layer protocol or Bitcoin contract using pre-signed transactions.
Despite these advantages, some have raised baseless concerns, labeling ephemeral anchors as spam or attacks on the network. These criticisms lack substance and serve as distractions from genuine technical advancements. It is essential to differentiate between valid criticism and irrational biases that hinder progress.
Constructive feedback is crucial in the open-source Bitcoin protocol, but unwarranted resistance to positive changes only obstructs development. It’s time to prioritize meaningful dialogue over unfounded objections to ensure the continuous improvement of Bitcoin.
