Eric Trump’s Deleted Tweet Raises Concerns About US Bitcoin Reserves

As the price of Bitcoin hovers near its previous all-time high from December 17, US Senator Cynthia Lummis and Eric Trump reportedly met at the Capitol to discuss the idea of establishing an American Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR). The news was first reported by Bloomberg’s Steven Dennis, with Eric Trump sharing and then deleting a tweet about the meeting on the crypto-focused platform Swan.

After the swift deletion of Eric Trump’s retweet, speculation arose about potential high-level caution to avoid prematurely revealing official plans. “What’s brewing behind the scenes?” Swan questioned in a follow-up tweet.

The recent discussions follow Senator Lummis’ introduction of The Bitcoin Act of 2024, which proposed establishing a US strategic Bitcoin reserve by acquiring 1 million BTC over five years. While details on the legislation’s progress are limited, sources suggest that Senator Lummis’s office is actively navigating the political and logistical complexities involved. Notably, the Senator also met with former President Donald Trump over the weekend.

With the pardon of Ross Ulbricht by President Trump, the concept of an SBR has gained momentum within the community. Analysts note that Trump had previously mentioned transferring seized BTC into a national stockpile during a 2024 conference, leading to increased speculation about the administration’s plans.

As discussions intensify, predictions on Polymarket suggest growing confidence in the likelihood of an SBR being established in the near future. Many within the crypto community are optimistic about the potential impact of such a move.

At a separate event, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong shared his thoughts on the importance of countries holding Bitcoin as a reserve asset. As the cryptocurrency market continues to evolve, the idea of a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve in the US remains a topic of interest and speculation.

Presently, Bitcoin is trading at $105,382.
